Safe movement during pregnancy

How we work on a trimester basis, under physiotherapist supervision.

By: Özlem Toy

In prenatal Pilates, each trimester requires a different approach. **1st trimester** — Often 'not overdoing it' is enough. We work on breath and pelvic-floor awareness. **2nd trimester** — As the belly grows, the back begins to take load. We work in side-lying positions on the reformer; hip stabilization and upper-back mobility are the priority. **3rd trimester** — The birth-preparation period. Positions that support the opening of the pelvic floor, and the coordination of breath. In this period the main goal is for the body to feel safe and ready on the day of birth. All classes are planned separately according to the trimester and begin with a doctor's approval.
